We are delighted to celebrate today being one of the select businesses recognised as winners of the 2016 Queen’s Award for Enterprise - the UK’s highest accolade for business success.
The award has been made in recognition of Extreme Fliers’ (Extreme Toys Ltd) remarkable innovation in the miniaturisation of technology, using a high-resolution camera in a small size Drone, progressing the electronics design. Micro Drone 2.0, conceptualised in 2012 is the first micro quad-copter with an HD video camera module. Designed with a modular structure, the Drone is easy to maintain and suitable for customisation. The innovation has brought in outstanding benefits to the business. In the last two years, Extreme Fliers has produced and sold more than twelve times the number of units from the first model and tripled exports overseas. It is now being sold in 147 countries worldwide.
This is the first accolade for the young company receiving The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise in Innovation. Research and development has been focused on core competencies to produce a single small size device, with ongoing investment in structural design, electronic engineering and software development. New ideas are continuously explored through 3D modelling, printed circuit board prototyping and firmware development. Extreme Fliers brings together the best creative thinking and ideas. We have successfully launched a new model every 18 months since starting out and each model can be adapted with accessories.
“We are extremely passionate about Drones and working in a fast-paced industry. We build products that we love to fly ourselves and our customers are our biggest fans. Although we are a small team, each of us is an expert in our field, based around this product. By innovating new technology, maintaining the highest quality standards, this has enabled us to lead in this ultra-niche vertical and keep ahead of the competition. Recognition from the Queen is a tremendous honour and allows everyone involved in Micro Drone’s development to be proud of our progress so far. It is so encouraging and is just the beginning of a journey that is rapidly unfolding. As the UK’s first small-sized consumer drone manufacturer, The Queen’s recognition provides a huge boost to the team and encourages us to continue to raise the bar and push new innovation.” said Vernon Kerswell, Founder & Hardware Architect of Extreme Fliers.
The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise is an award programme for British business and other organizations that excel at international trade, innovation or sustainable development. They are the highest official UK awards for British businesses.
The scheme was established as The Queen’s Award to Industry by a royal warrant of 30th November 1965. The awards are made on the advice of the Prime Minister after examination by an Advisory Committee composed of leading individuals from industry, commerce, trade unions and government.
The team invites you to celebrate this moment together with us and share our joy!
