FAQs

What is the flight time for Micro Drone 3.0? How long does it take to recharge the battery?

Eight minutes of continuous flying can be achieved without the camera attached. After attaching the accessories, flight time is around six minutes, and using the expansion pack and camera flight time is seven minutes due to additional lifting power. Recharge time on the batteries is up to an hour for full charge.

Does Micro Drone 3.0 only stream video or can it also record?

Micro Drone 3.0 can both stream video to a smartphone/tablet as well as record onto an onboard Micro SD memory card.

How loud is Micro Drone 3.0 in flight?

We are using high grade endurance motors which are the quietest available (the same coreless motors used for vibrating smartphones). Feedback from Micro Drone 2.0 has been that users really liked how quiet they were (this model was not much louder than a whisper in flight), Micro Drone 3.0 has bigger motors which are a bit louder. We will produce a video to give you an example.

Does Micro Drone 3.0 fly autonomously and have a ‘follow me’ feature?

We find this technology very interesting, but so far outside of the lab this is a long way off. In 2013, we built prototypes that used sonar and IR sensors to fly autonomously, however due to outside variables this didn’t add much stability. We are focused on making the drone more automatic using reliable sensors that make the drone easier to control.

Can the camera module take photos? What is the resolution of the HD camera module?

The camera module can take both photos and video. The photo resolution is 1280 x 720 pixels and image file size for each photo is typically between 30KB and 100KB. The video is shot in 720p (1280 x 720 pixels) and its recording rate is approximately 100MB/s.

What formats are the video and photos?

The video records as MOV format with an H.264 codec and a frame rate of 25fps with a 1280 x 720 pixel resolution and 14.6 Mbps bitrate. There is also a Microphone and the audio codec is PCM with 128Kbps bitrate and CBR bitrate mode. The photos it takes are JPEG format with a 1280 x 720 pixel resolution and lossy compression mode.

How will Micro Drone link video with my smartphone/tablet?

Micro Drone 3.0 becomes a WiFi access point that your smartphone/tablet tethers to over a secure connection. Once this connection is established our app will be able to automatically configure and display the video stream coming from the drone to your smartphone/tablet.

Will there be a carrying case/new accessories for Micro Drone 3.0 available for purchase at some point?

We have had a lot of requests for new modules and we plan to launch accessories.

Are replacement blades available? If so how much are they?

Yes, spare blades and other parts are available to order. We are providing parts at a discount to make them affordable and easy to obtain.

What is the range on Micro Drone 3.0?

With its dual control, Micro Drone 3.0 can be flown using either our professional 2.4 GHz remote control or a smartphone/tablet over WiFi. With the 2.4 GHz Remote Control the range is 500ft (~150m). The camera module will be able to record video to an onboard Micro SD memory card up to this distance. Live streaming to your smartphone/tablet can be made up to 150ft.

What happens when the battery runs low on Micro Drone 3.0?

We have designed an early warning indicator where the onboard LEDs flash rapidly when there is less than 30 seconds of remaining flight time.

Are the protective bumpers shipping with Micro Drone 3.0?

Yes, these are included in the set.

Will it be possible eventually to have a 1080p resolution camera for Micro Drone 3.0?

Yes! We designed this as a modular drone where you can choose a wide range of cameras. Camera technology is getting lighter, more advanced and users will be able to continuously upgrade the modules without having to change the Drone.
